Die Grundform, das Sechseck, wurde von den Bienenwaben abgeschaut. Die sechseckige Form ermöglicht es, beliebig viele Elemente aneinander zu bauen.

Als Grundelement wurde, wie bei der traditionellen Kohte auch, die Dreiecksbahn gewählt.

Im Unterschied zur ursprünglichen Kohte besteht die Rainbow-Kohte nicht aus vier, sondern aus sechs Kothenblättern.
